First just a quick thank you to Andrew for asking me to write a guest article while he is away, It’s a great chance to help out and connect with others you may not have crossed paths with before. Hope everyone enjoys it!

Plenty of you that stop over here at myinkblog have most likely seen most, if not all of these sites before. Have you ever really looked at them? Closely? Many of the typefaces used in these examples I chose are all pretty similar. That’s not a bad thing. You can find inspiration in almost anything! Today I am focusing on type + color, and have written a line or two underneath each choice I have made to display below. It’s crazy how many combination’s can be created with color + type and movement too. You may find yourself going back to these sites to look at them more closely. I hope you draw some inspiration from this article.

North Temple - Combining graphics and layers into type, not too much, not too little. A great flow.

ipleadthefirst / Andy Mangold - Great hierarchy & color. The mix of bold, upper lower & uppercase are just beautiful. Be sure to read the article while your there.

TypeChart - This is one of the most useful resources for css + type. The combination’s going on here make me inspired to design a whole website just set in type.

haveamint, Shaun Inmann - The color scheme going on here makes me think - yup I’m going to be minted soon. It’s really perfect in every way.

BlackPulp - The centered type mixing with the space that was left to breath. Yum. And more Yum.

ThemeShaper - What can I say here - the colors work perfect and the italic type is by far what draws me towards the site. You should probably check this one out closer too, they have a full page of type that will draw you in.

postmachina - Not too much going on here, but look at those dark grays & blacks + whites. Simple, big & Bold is where it’s at.

Verbalized -This design is simple and has a great grid based layout. Light colors really make this type pop.

Mark Boulton - The grid he creates on is amazing. Everything is nicely planned out and my favorite part of his site is the colors!

9rules - Come on take a close look! No silly it’s not because FuelYourCreativity got in! I’m trying to point out the amazing colors that work so nicely together with the type. This one is yummy too.

Sketchy Premise - Did you see that header?! They really took a WP Theme and made it their own. Love the title & drawings. See it’s the simple things that sometimes flow together.

Nice article, adelle. I especially like the Verbalised header, which I had seen before, too.

These layouts are for the most part very clean and simple, which is essential for good design in any medium, and which also helps to make the type treatment and the colour schemes stand out.

Great roundup! I really liked the simplicity of the black, white and grey postmachina website. You can really do a lot of different things with only type and colour—maybe it could be useful to limit yourself to only those two element when designing something, and then (maybe) add more.
